Role of E-Commerce in Successfully Running Logistics

When did you order anything online? Last week, last month, or probably today. Your parcel had come to your doorsteps on time. The entire process brings together two major industries, E-Commerce, and Logistics. They both go hand-in-hand and keep influencing each other’s growth. How? Let’s discuss that.

With every passing year, the e-commerce industry companies, and they are allowing the logistics sector to opt for new heights of success. The fact that more people are switching to online purchases every day, is creating a better stepping stone for all these logistic companies.

While different countries like The United States, China, and Japan are holding the position of the top three players, statistically they are accounting for 21%, 16.8%, and 10.4% of the world’s total e-commerce retail sales.

What’s worth noticing is how it has influenced logistics. The impact is huge. Let’s give you a glimpse of that.

Ways in Which E-Commerce Has Influenced Logistics Companies

Fulfillment Center and Warehouse Facility

Fulfillment centers are the place where goods and inventories are kept after the order is placed by the customers. On the other hand, once the supplier uploads the goods from these fulfillment centers they are kept in a warehouse where they are organized and dispatched to their respective addresses.

Inbound goods are delivered from the supplier to your warehouse, to be stored until they are dispatched to your customers.

These two are the pillars of e-commerce and both these facilities are provided by logistics companies which is why their demand has been elevated tremendously with the growth of e-commerce.

Takes Care of the Rules and Regulations

Post pandemic, there has been an astronomical change in the rules and regulations when it comes to the export and import of goods. Only experts can handle these shifts in the paradigm efficiently so that the e-commerce company meets no legal trouble in the future.

These experts will be a part of the logistic department and will take care of the entire journey of the parcel from the initial to the final point. These professionals will take the responsibility of delivering the parcel to the customers on their reliable shoulders.

Post-Delivery Services

If you think your job is done a post to the delivery of the goods then you’re mistaken. You need to ensure that the customer is satisfied with the product and if not then you need to accept their return request and deliver them a product that they desire.

Even if there is no return request, you need to ask the customers for their feedback and if there is anything that you can change or improve. Their feedback will give you the right direction to march towards. This is very crucial for start-ups.

This is where customer service will save you. these services come under the umbrella of logistics and ensure that the customer is happy and even ask them to give their feedback. They will make these customers aware of the offers that you are providing so that more people purchase your goods.

Such services are extremely important to attract new customers and retain the old ones.

Summary

Without logistics, it is tough for the e-commerce industry to bridge the gap between the supplier and the customer. For instance, to take the food from ‘farm to fork’, e-commerce needs logistics companies to draft the map and execute accordingly.

With the advancement of technology, these logistics are digitizing their way of work and easing the method of transportation. Thus, it has now become clear that an e-commerce company is non-functional without logistics and vice versa.
